About

Hiking to Mount Keipen

Keipen is a relatively easy hike which offers a magnificent view from the top, and it is an excellent place to see the midnight sun.

Length – Ca 3 km in total

Duration – Ca one hour in total

Difficulty – Easy, suitable for the whole family

Description – Drive towards Kasfjord, fv867, approximately 10 km from Harstad city centre you take right on fv1, towards Aunfjellet. After the first lake on the right-hand side of the road, you find the parking on the left. Follow the path which starts at the far-right end of the parking.

Marking – No marked trail, but well kept

Route description – Easy path towards the top when you follow the trail towards Keipvatnet, which is a small pond. Stay on the trail to the north until you reach the top. Here you have a fantastic view towards Kasfjorden and Skjærstad on the other side of the fjord, and further out towards the mountain Elgen (the Moose) and Andfjorden.

Tip – The marsh in the beginning may be wet, but you can keep right and follow the path around instead of crossing directly over.
