The world's northernmost inhabited archipelago

Life here, far up north, has always been dependent on the sea, and the region around Harstad is no exception. The peninsula outside Harstad is said to be the worlds northernmost inhabited peninsula, and if you set out to explore this island kingdom you will find traces of history all the way back to the old Viking Chieftain Tore Hund.

On the many small island you can find more than 100 white sandy beaches to go ashore. Bring a nice lunch to share while kayaking with your loved one, or book a guided fishing trip and go ashore to prepare your freshly caught fish. The atmosphere is especially nice at sea when the midnight sun sheds its golden glow across the water.  

Join in on a tour to the bird cliff where thousands of kittywakes nest every year, what the sea-eagle soar accross the sky or listen for the porpoise breathing around the boat.
