About

Join us on a magical winter adventure with Explore Harstad and discover the enchanting beauty of Harstad's winter landscape. Explore Harstad offers a unique winter experience that combines the excitement of outdoor activities with the cozy warmth of traditional lavvus (Sami tents).

One of the highlights of the winter program is the fascinating Northern Lights experience. You will be taken to Explore Harstad's low aviary, where you can experience the dance of the northern lights against the arctic sky. The Lavvu camp provides a perfect setting, surrounded by the pristine snow-covered landscape.

Explore Harstad also invites you to a number of outdoor activities such as tobogganing, snowshoeing and mini skiing.

COMFORT FOR YOU

For those looking for warmth and relaxation, the lavvus offer a cozy retreat. Inside, the crackling sound of a live fire adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Here you get steaming mugs of hot cocoa, a winter favourite, and local waffles. These delicious treats are served with classic Norwegian accessories such as brown cheese, jam and sour cream.

The winter experience with Explore Harstad is not just about activities, but about creating lasting memories in the heart of a winter paradise. Whether you're hunting for the northern lights, gliding down snowy slopes or enjoying a hot drink by the fire, Explore Harstad provides a winter adventure filled with joy, warmth and the unique charm of the arctic landscape.

Explore Harstad also offers the option of borrowing warm clothes for those who want it, so that you can enjoy the trip in full comfort, even without your own winter equipment.

ABOUT THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and we cannot guarantee that you will see them.

In order to see the northern lights, it is required that there are not too many clouds in the sky. The sun is the source of a stream of large amounts of electrical particles that hit an area in the upper layer of the atmosphere called the auroral oval. When these particles collide, the Northern Lights occur. Harstad is located in this oval, which gives very good chances to experience it. The northern lights can sometimes be weak and inconspicuous, especially if there is little activity on the sun.
