About
Since its first concerts in 1991, Concerto Copenhagen (CoCo) has developed into Scandinavia's leading orchestra in early music – baroque, classical and early romantic. They combine artistic authenticity and innovation – through original and uncompromising interpretations, the music is given new life and renewed relevance for a modern audience.
Concerto Copenhagen and Lars Ulrik Mortensen have long been working on a more minimalist approach to Bach's orchestral suites, now with 11 musicians. Then volume, pomp and splendor are replaced with elegance, clarity and transparent lightness, which will help clarify Bach's intentions.
Since 1999, the collaboration between the orchestra and Lars Ulrik Mortensen has led to an exciting artistic and musical journey - appreciated and praised by audiences and critics worldwide. Lars Ulrik Mortensen is artistic director, conductor and harpsichordist in CoCo. He has been active as a conductor for 25 years, and for almost 20 years he has worked exclusively with period instruments and original performance practice.
With a unique repertoire, which combines well-known European music with lesser-known works of Scandinavian origin as well as new music, CoCo marked its 30th anniversary in 2021. This year, the orchestra was named "Artist of the Year" by Dansk Radio P2.
