About
The evening starts with Ravel's La Valse, which leads us into both light and dark directions and ends in full storm. For many, this is the roller coaster of rollers.
Ravel was inspired by many things, including jazz, which is expressed in his Piano Concerto in G major. Tonight we are lucky enough to hear our new regional musician, Kristian Ofstad Lindberg, as soloist in this very piece.
A strong program needs a break and after the break we get another strong soloist from Scene Nord, the violinist Erika Toth. Together with Kristian Lindberg, she performs Tzigiane for violin and piano, a suggestive, virtuosic and wild piece. The army's music corps ends the evening with one of Ravel's best works, Daphnis et Chloé, Suite 2 arranged for the corps' orchestra by Helge Sveen. The suite begins with the most beautiful morning imaginable and continues with a famously suggestive flute solo, which illustrates the story of Pan and Syrinx.
The end is a stirring "danse generale" in five measures with an ecstatic final climax. This wonderful Ravel evening is a collaboration between Scene Nord and the Army's music corps. Conductor is Bjarte Engeset.
