Film: Close (Netherlands, Belgium, France, 2022) Director: Lucas Dhont. An award winner from Cannes that hits right in the heart! Introduction to the film by film critic Kathrine Ridderseth.
The event is part of the Pride week in Harstad. Léo and Remi are best friends, but when they start secondary school they quickly drift apart. Léo is more concerned with fitting in and making new friends, while Remi wants to keep what was and struggles to adapt to the new everyday life.
Close is a painful and beautiful coming-of-age account of identity and turning point from Belgian Lukas Dhont (Girl). The film depicts how vulnerable the transition from child to youth can be. It is an unforgettable film about friendship and love, but also grief and loss. Close is about losing someone, and about finding yourself. The film won one of the main prizes during this year's Cannes Film Festival – the Grand Prix. In 2023, Close was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best International Film.
